Personal pronouns and present tense

This Spanish lesson will be about pronouns and present tense. As in any other language Spanish has pronouns ( I, you,he,she,it,you,we,they) that you must know  by heart. In this lesson You will learn how to conjugate the first group of verbs as well.  1st group of verbs are those that end in -ar.

The personal pronouns are the ones that are beneath in the table.

Personal pronouns
Examples:
Yo
Yo camino por el parque
( do not forget the accent mark)
caminas por el parque
Él, Ella
Él/ella camina por el parque
Nosotros
Nosotros caminamos por el parque
Ustedes
Ustedes caminan por el parque
Ellos
Ellos caminan por el parque

Now, the conjugation of the verbs with -ar endings is:

Caminar (-ar ending)
 Hablar (-ar ending)
Yo
Camino            -o
 Hablo            -o
Caminas          -as
 Hablas           -as
Él/Ella
Camina            -a
 Habla            -a
Nosotros
Caminamos     -amos
 Hablamos     -amos
Ustedes
Caminan          -an
 Hablan          -an
Ellos
Caminan          -an
 Hablan          -an

It is not that difficult, but it is necessary to set aside time to study and memorize this endings.  For French people could be easier to learn, realize and not forget that every single verbs must be conjugated according to the personal pronouns, because they has the same rule in French ( every verb must be conjugated).

Notice that there are a root and an ending. For example the root of Caminar will be: Camin and instead of the -ar ending we add the termination according to the personal pronoun; Yo camino, caminas, Él/Ella camina and so on.

Do the following exercises: Conjugate according to the personal pronoun the following verbs:

Cortar  (to cut)
Mirar   (to see)
Cantar (to sing)
 Bajar   (to go down)
Gritar  (to yell)

I will give you a hint :

Yo Cort----
Tú Cort----
Él/Ella Cort---
Nosotro Cort---
Ustedes Cort---
Ellos/Ellas Cort---

Lyrics

Try to sing the song and learn new vocabulary. Look for the words you do not know.

This was the song of the week, next post we will keep with grammar and vocabulary. I am figuring out the best way to teach you pronunciation.
As you already know you can write your doubts in the comments.

Definite and indefinite articles

Definite Articles

It is important to learn the articles because all nouns use them in sentences.  Articles could be masculine and feminine, singular and plural.
There is an important rule that can help you to know which noun is feminine or which one is masculine.

The rule is that some masculine nouns end in an –o, and many feminine nouns end in an –a.

Underneath there is a chart showing all the definite articles:

*****Definite articles in Spanish must agree in gender and number with the noun.

El

La

Los

Las

Here there are some masculine/singular nouns to make your lexicon bigger:

El techo : the roof
El gato : the cat
El mapa : the map
El avión  : the plane
El día : the day
El planeta : the planet
El sofá : the sofa
El estudiante : the student
El hombre : the man

As in every language there are some exceptions; el mapa ends in –a but it is masculine, it was highlighted the exceptions in this list. Little by little you will learn the gender of each noun.

Now the list of feminine/ singular nouns, there are a couple of exceptions, they were highlighted as well.

La casa : The house
La mosca : the fly
La niña : the girl
La cicatriz : the scar
La clase : the class
La cama : the bed
La pluma : the pen
La mano : the hand
La mujer : the woman

If the nouns is feminine in its singular form you have to make the plural in feminine as well or if it was masculine in the singular form it will be masculine in its plural form. To make plural nouns you have to add -s or -es just as in English.

Feminine/ plural

Las cartas : the cards
Las mesas : the tables
Las sillas : the chairs
Las maestras : the teachers
Las niñas : the girls
Las camas : the beds

Masculine/ plural

Los niños : the boys
Los planetas : the planets
Los sofas :the sofas
Los ratones : the mice
Los teléfonos : the telephones

Now you make the same nouns but in their plural form!.

Are you wondering when you should use definite or indefinite articles?

Well that is a good question and just as in English or french definite articles are used when you talk about something in specific. English has only ''the'' as definite articles but in Spanish definite articles must agree in gender and number with the noun.
Indefinite articles are used to indicate a nonspecific noun, it could be used when you talk about something in general. In English the indefinite article is - a -  or  -an before vowels.

I hope this lessons is useful for you, remember that practice makes perfection do not give up. If you have any question write it in the comments !!!!
