Greeting






Learn how to give your name or ask for someone's name, give your nationality or ask for the nationality of your new friend; greeting is one of the most helpful lessons since you can make new friends with just few words.


  • To say hello to somebody :

to respond this questions you can use the follow responses:

to say I am fine, I am ok, I am doing well, so on:

Ser/Estar in present tense.

One of the most difficult or confusing part of the Spanish language is the verb ‘to be’ / ‘être’;
It is different from English or French as in Spanish it is used two verbs ‘Ser/Estar’. Keep in mind that when you are studying and learning a new language you better try to think and not to translate your first language to your foreign language since both languages have differences. the understanding of this lesson is going to need time and little by little you could start using it in a natural way; do not give up and let’s try to comprehend some ways to use it.



 First of all it will be showed the conjugation of the verb ‘Ser’ in present tense.



SER in present tense.
Yo
Soy
Eres
Él/Ella/Usted
Es
Nosotros/Nosotras
Somos
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes
Son


















'Ser' can be followed by a noun or an adjective, for example:

-Puebla es una ciudad de México.

-Ese árbol es alto.


'Ser' is used to express permanent characteristics of something or someone, e.g


  • María es bella ( beauty is part of María, she is always beautiful.) 
  • Samantha es musulmana ( she was born in Muslim culture, Samantha will always be Muslim.)
  • El vidrio es frágil
  • El sol es grande
  • El cielo es azul
  • La tierra es redonda (it is a fact that the earth is round)

The verb ‘Ser’ is used to express the personality of a person, e.g:


  • Carlos es alegre.
  • Shara es simpática.
  • Sophie es melancólica.
  • Nathalie es bondadosa. 

(there are some exceptions)

These are some of the ways where you can use the verb ‘Ser’; there are so many other ways to use it but let’s start practicing the verb with these examples, try to think in spanish.


Now it is time to explain the verb ‘ Estar’ .

Here the conjugation of ‘Estar’ in present tense.



ESTAR in present tense.

The verb ‘Estar’ can be followed by an adjective, an adverb but never by a noun. E.g

  • La casa está limpia.
  • Mis hermanos están bien.


The verb ‘Estar’ expresses presence. E.g

  • Clara no está en casa.
  • Manuel está con la abuela.
  • Sam y Sofia están en la escuela.


The verb ‘Estar’ also utters a characteristique that is acquire: e.g

  • Vanesa está linda. ( she is looking beautifully just in that moment )
  • Juan está contento. ( In that moment Juan is happy because of good new)
  • Tu cuarto está limpio. ( Usually the room is dirty )
